It was a long time I wanted to speak about Orange and its crap Livebox so here it is 😉
For sure, Orange, state operator, and biggest french telecom operator, supplies since a long time (in fact since Free has started to supply one for all their ADSL access) a box for all its Internet customers (both ADSL and Fiber).
Nevertheless, Orange, as usual, is not really clever in its technological choices !!
- You have (nearly) no choice but to use their box to get access att all features of your Internet ADSL or fiber access (Internet, Phone, Television) but they still charge you few extra bucks for rent of that mandatory box (sic).
- Web interface of box has been designed in 80’s both for design and load speed, not even speaking initial startup time of the dinosaur.
- It has been quite a few time some security holes have been discovered in it (last one allowing anyome to get access at your Wifi, not the best !).
- Orange has absolutely none technical expertise on its box manufactured by Sagem, and most of time always select the most complex and cumbersome technical choices.
- Box doesn’t even have basic feature like bridge mode (Orange technical services are still in 70’s).
- The best being port filtering that you can’t deactivate (SMTP ports among others) so basically Orange always supplies impaired internet access but price is still full 🙁
When Orange will be up-to-date with technologies ? because right now it has Leader position for the worse Internet box and for fiber they have also invested in without future technologies (GPON) which involves very strong mutualisation and no evolution in term of speed for customers !!!
